Keep Up With What’s Happening on Folly Beach

While there are thousands of instagram-worthy moments on Folly Beach every single day, we can only capture so many. Check out our daily Instagram posts below and make sure to tags us in yours so you can help us share the Folly love.

The heart of a place is often shaped by the people who care for it and for each other. 💙🌊

Recently, the Folly Association of Business (FAB) helped support three incredible organizations through proceeds raised from beloved island events, including Sea & Sand Festival, Mermaids & Mateys, and Taste of Folly.

Pictured with FAB President Vince Perna are Nancy Hussey of Surfers Healing (Left), Carol Linville of Pet Helpers (Center), and Sara Wetmore of Waves 4 Women (Right).

Each organization creates meaningful impact through connection, support, healing, and community. Their work reaches far beyond Folly and reflects the care that has long been part of this island’s rhythm.

We are grateful for the organizations, neighbors, and community leaders helping strengthen the place so many people know and love.

This time of year, some of Folly’s quietest visitors begin making their way home. 🐢🌙

Loggerhead sea turtle nesting season is underway along the Edge of America, and each marked nest is a reminder of how connected this island is to the natural rhythms of the coast.

From May 1 through October 31, small choices can make a meaningful difference for nesting turtles and hatchlings making their way to the ocean.

A few important reminders during nesting season:

• Keep beachfront lights off from dusk to dawn
• Avoid flashlights and flash photography near turtles or nests
• Fill in large holes before leaving the beach
• Keep dogs away from marked nesting areas
• Observe nesting turtles quietly and from a distance

Thank you to everyone in the Folly community who helps protect these incredible animals year after year. The care people show this island extends far beyond the shoreline. 🌊

If you spot a sea turtle or hatchlings, please report the sighting to 843-588-2433.

The water around Folly changes in May. 🌊🎣

Bait schools begin moving through the inlets, pelicans dive along the shoreline, and the marsh settles into the louder, greener rhythm of late spring.

In this month’s fishing report, Capt. Gates shares what he is seeing out on the water right now, from the arrival of massive menhaden schools to the growing activity around the reefs, creeks, and estuary surrounding Folly Beach. It is a thoughtful look at the season through the eyes of someone who spends his days on the water. ☀️

Whether you fish or simply love the natural rhythm of the coast, this is a beautiful glimpse into what makes this time of year around Folly feel so alive.

A special thank you to Capt. Gates for continuing to share these stories and perspectives from the water with our community.

Friday on Folly feels a little different this time of year. ☀️🌊

The days are stretching longer, the ocean is warming up, and the island starts to settle back into that familiar spring and summer rhythm.

More people out walking the beach. Surfboards heading toward the water. Open windows along Center Street. Dinner plans turning into sunset plans.

There is an energy to Folly this time of year that feels easy, lively, and unmistakably coastal.

Whether you are here for the weekend or simply slowing down for a few days, we are glad you are here. 🌴

#FollyBusinessSpotlight - Folly Beach Anglers 🎣

For years, the Folly Beach Anglers have helped bring people together through one of the island’s favorite traditions: fishing off the Folly Beach Pier.

Their annual Take A Kid Fishing Tournament has become a meaningful part of summer on Folly, giving kids the chance to learn, fish, and spend time on the water alongside family, friends, and members of the local fishing community. 🌊

This year marks the 15th Annual Jerry Pierce Memorial Fishing Tournament, taking place Saturday, June 6, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Pier. The free event welcomes kids ages 4-16, with fishing equipment provided while supplies last and prizes awarded throughout the day.

It is the kind of community tradition that reflects what Folly Beach is all about. Time outside, shared experiences, and creating memories that last long after the day is over. ☀️

The Funky Side of Folly 🎨🌴

Folly Beach has never been the kind of place that tries to be polished.

That is part of what people love about it. 🌊

Colorful murals tucked beside coffee shops. Hand-painted signs. Surfboards on porches. Local art, beach dogs, hidden corners, and little details that make the island feel alive in its own way.

Folly’s personality is part of the experience. Creative, relaxed, a little quirky, and unmistakably local.

It is the kind of beach town where wandering around can become the best part of the day. ☀️🎶🐾

That spirit is part of what makes Folly different from more polished resort destinations, giving the island a creative and authentic character all its own.
