Memorial Day Weekend starts here. ☀️🌊

The bags are unpacked. The sandals are by the door. The walk to the beach feels a little slower in the best way.

Welcome to Folly Beach, where long weekends are meant for ocean air, sunset walks, good food, and losing track of time along the Edge of America. 🌴

We cannot wait to spend Memorial Day Weekend with you.

There’s something really grounding about slowing down long enough to notice the wildlife around Folly. 🐦🌾

A hawk watching quietly from above. Shorebirds moving with the tide. Oystercatchers weaving through the sand at their own unhurried pace.

For many visitors, these are the moments that stay with them long after they leave the island. The stillness. The movement. The feeling of sharing space with the natural rhythm of the coast. 🌊

Folly has always been a place where nature feels close. Sometimes all you have to do is pause and look around.

A good evening on Folly does not always need much. A breeze off the river, a chair in the grass, and live music as the sun starts to settle. 🌅🎶

Tonight, the Folly Beach Spring Concert Series continues with Southbound 17 bringing their harmony-driven alt-country sound to Folly River Park from 6-8 pm.

📍 Folly River Park

#FollyBusinessSpotlight - Mr. John’s Beach Store 🐚

A trip to Folly Beach is not complete without wandering into Mr. John’s.

For generations, this little corner shop on Center Street has been part beach store, part treasure hunt, and part piece of Folly history. Flip flops out front. Shark teeth hanging from the ceiling. Seashells, surf gear, souvenirs, and the kind of quirky finds you did not know you needed until you spotted them inside. 🌊

Mr. John’s has been part of the island since 1951, and while the store entered a new chapter under new ownership in 2024, the spirit of the place still feels deeply connected to old Folly Beach. Colorful, a little funky, and full of character. ☀️

It is the kind of spot people return to year after year, not just for what is on the shelves, but for the memories tied to it.

Next time you are walking Center Street, step inside and take a look around. You never know what you will find. 🏄

The heart of a place is often shaped by the people who care for it and for each other. 💙🌊

Recently, the Folly Association of Business (FAB) helped support three incredible organizations through proceeds raised from beloved island events, including Sea & Sand Festival, Mermaids & Mateys, and Taste of Folly.

Pictured with FAB President Vince Perna are Nancy Hussey of Surfers Healing (Left), Carol Linville of Pet Helpers (Center), and Sara Wetmore of Waves 4 Women (Right).

Each organization creates meaningful impact through connection, support, healing, and community. Their work reaches far beyond Folly and reflects the care that has long been part of this island’s rhythm.

We are grateful for the organizations, neighbors, and community leaders helping strengthen the place so many people know and love.

This time of year, some of Folly’s quietest visitors begin making their way home. 🐢🌙

Loggerhead sea turtle nesting season is underway along the Edge of America, and each marked nest is a reminder of how connected this island is to the natural rhythms of the coast.

From May 1 through October 31, small choices can make a meaningful difference for nesting turtles and hatchlings making their way to the ocean.

A few important reminders during nesting season:

• Keep beachfront lights off from dusk to dawn
• Avoid flashlights and flash photography near turtles or nests
• Fill in large holes before leaving the beach
• Keep dogs away from marked nesting areas
• Observe nesting turtles quietly and from a distance

Thank you to everyone in the Folly community who helps protect these incredible animals year after year. The care people show this island extends far beyond the shoreline. 🌊

If you spot a sea turtle or hatchlings, please report the sighting to 843-588-2433.

The water around Folly changes in May. 🌊🎣

Bait schools begin moving through the inlets, pelicans dive along the shoreline, and the marsh settles into the louder, greener rhythm of late spring.

In this month’s fishing report, Capt. Gates shares what he is seeing out on the water right now, from the arrival of massive menhaden schools to the growing activity around the reefs, creeks, and estuary surrounding Folly Beach. It is a thoughtful look at the season through the eyes of someone who spends his days on the water. ☀️

Whether you fish or simply love the natural rhythm of the coast, this is a beautiful glimpse into what makes this time of year around Folly feel so alive.

A special thank you to Capt. Gates for continuing to share these stories and perspectives from the water with our community.

Summer traditions on Folly have a way of bringing people together. ☀️🎣

On Saturday, June 6, kids will line the Folly Beach Pier once again for the 15th Annual Jerry Pierce Memorial Take A Kid Fishing Tournament, hosted by the Folly Beach Anglers.

For many families, it is more than a fishing event. It is a chance to spend time together outdoors, learn something new, and make memories along the water that stick with you long after the day ends. 🌊

The event is free to attend, open to kids ages 4-16, and fishing rods, reels, and bait will be provided for the first 300 participants. No pre-registration is required.
