The Folly Association of Business
Our businesses band together to make sure that the Folly community
and our visitors enjoy the beauty of Folly Beach.
The Folly Association of Business (FAB) is proud to work closely with Locals and Folly Beach City Hall to make Folly Beach one of the best beaches in the country! We are a non-profit, diverse group of business owners dedicated to community outreach, a vibrant economy and quality of life for the residence that support us year round. We look forward to putting on the Sea and Sand Festival, which has been pushed forward to it’s original month – September. We plan to donate more to charities based on Sea & Sand income.
We are also happy to be giving $10,000 to the City to be used on things like Holiday Decorations, the New Year’s Eve Celebration, A Water Fountain at the River Park, and other Parks and Recreation amenities.
Additionally, we have been putting money aside every year for Folly’s 50th Golden Anniversary in 2022 so that there will be funds to put on Folly’s biggest family friendly celebration of Folly Beach!
FAB led the charge to keep our water ways clear of plastic bags and Styrofoam by asking for and sponsoring the City’s ordinance.
We would not be who we are without the support of the citizens of Folly Beach, our members and our close relationship with City Hall.
Thank you Folly Beach for giving us the assets to make such a big impact on our little slice of paradise!
This month FAB will donate a total of $25,000 to local charities and to the City of Folly Beach projects from FAB’s first quarter Festivals.
In addition, we will continue to bring Folly Beach the fireworks displays for Independence Day and New Year’s Eve!
And each year we’ve been setting aside $5,000 for Folly’s 50th Golden Anniversary Celebration!
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Jerry Pierce Memorial “Take A Kid Fishing Day” on the Folly Beach Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier. Mr. Pierce who was one of the founding members of the event had a passion for kids and fishing. He passed away a few years ago and we felt it was necessary to keep his love alive and we decided to list the event in his memory. Last year, over 380 kids participated in the event and including their family members there were close to 900 on the pier.
What’s so special about this event is that the Anglers provide the kids with everything needed…a free t-shirt, water, snacks, a rod and reel, bait and volunteers to assist with baiting the hook, casting and reeling in their catch. Prizes are awarded in numerous age brackets for kids 15 and under. This year’s “Take A Kid Fishing Day” is scheduled for June 2nd and registration begins at 8:00am. Don’t miss it!
Founded on Folly Beach in 2015 by American combat veterans and surfers, The Warrior Surf Foundation is committed to bringing veterans and their families together to promote mental and physical well-being through the unique experience of surfing. This summer, Veterans and Active Duty Service Members will join us on Folly Beach for our six week Surf Camp. Without the support of FAB and our community, we would not be able to fulfill our mission. Thank you for your tireless support!
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carolina Youth Development Center is a one-to-one Mentoring organization serving children facing adversity in the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties of South Carolina. The BBBS program has been around in the Lowcountry since 1978 and provides the unique opportunity for children, “Littles”, to have one on one time with rigorously screened adult mentors, “Bigs”. Children in our program spend 3-4 times a month with their Big Brothers or Big Sisters and have increased outcomes in their behavioral, social, academic, and emotional wellbeing. In 2017, the BBBS program served 212 Big/Little matches, which was a 23% increase in participants compared to 2016.
With the support of the Folly Association of Business, we are able to continue serving even more children in the Lowcountry and provide our children with life-changing relationships with their Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We boldly believe that every child should have a mentor and our work would not be possible without the generosity of organizations like the Folly Association of Business.
Folly Beach Exchange Club
We are a group of locals working together to make the Folly Beach community a better place to live. Throughout the year, we put on fundraisers and events such as our Annual Oyster Roast and Silent Auction in March. Thank you FAB for your generosity, because of you, we are able to raise money to better our community!
Every year, Surfers Healing hosts a Surf Camp on Folly Beach for kids with autism. Their mission is to enrich the lives of people living with autism by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing. On August 23, 2018, Surfers Healing will head to Folly Beach for their Summer Surf Camp to help make a difference in our community, one ride at a time.
