Toby’s Spooktacular Sweep
Toby’s Spooktacular Sweep

It was a chilly & rainy Sunday afternoon but that didn’t stop over 100 volunteers from joining us in costume for Toby’s Spooktacular Sweep last month!
These participants walked across the island from the County Park to the Lighthouse to pick up debris off the beach, roadways, boat landing, and so much more.
The total amount of debris collected was an outstanding 10,133 items. Recorded by our amazing participants and inputted into the Litter Free Digital Journal by the South Carolina Aquarium, this data helps us keep track of how much litter debris is on our island, bring awareness to litter issues, and find solutions.
Thank you to our 18 volunteers who manned our 9 stations across the island to greet the participants, collect debris and data, and more importantly, share Toby’s amazing message. A HUGE thank you goes out to the Sweep Dragon and Folly Beach Chair Company for picking up our debris and disposing of it, and to all of the restaurants that offered amazing discounts after the sweep.
We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you. Toby is so proud of you all for helping him keep Folly clean!

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
Cute, Calm & Peaceful
First time visitor to Folly Beach–loved it! Quiet and peaceful with many trees left on island.
