Family Fun in Folly
Family Fun in Folly
Folly Beach has a host of exciting opportunities for all ages! From basking in the summer sun to grabbing an ice cream cone, there is something for the whole family to enjoy while visiting Folly Beach. There is an opportunity to engage with wildlife, find fossils, and enjoy the scenic views. This beach is jam-packed with fun for the whole family.
Shark Tooth Hunting
Spend a few hours looking for little black triangles along the tideline! Folly Beach is a great spot to find elusive prehistoric shark teeth fossils. Shark teeth can be hard to find depending on the conditions, but searching through shell deposits along the beach at mid to low tide has given some island visitors great luck! To identify if a finding is a shark tooth, remember that shark teeth are harder to break than a shell and do not typically have striations or patterns that shell fragments will have.
Ride Bikes around the Island
Riding bikes is a great way to see and get around the city and enjoy the crisp sea breeze. By bike, families can take in all of the city’s scenic views and the beach. Bike rentals can be found throughout the city, and many bike rental businesses offer baby seats so that young children can ride with their parents.
Get up Close and Personal with Dolphins
Dolphin tours are great for the entire family. Various boat charters are offered and cruise through Folly River. These charters will teach the entire family about dolphins and their habitats, making this a fun, educational experience for everyone!
Visit the Folly Beach Pier
Whether families want to fish or take in the views from above the waters, the Folly Beach Pier will bring about loads of fun for everyone. The pier is fully equipped with fishing pole rentals, snack and ice cream shops, and a 7500 sq. ft. platform at the end to view the water below! The pier is wheelchair accessible, as well.

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
