A Reel Good Time on Folly Beach: Jerry Pierce Memorial Fishing Tournament Returns
There’s nothing quite like summer on Folly Beach, and one of the season’s most cherished traditions is back! The Jerry Pierce Memorial Fishing Tournament returns for its 15th year on Saturday, June 6, 2026, inviting young anglers to cast a line, reel in some fun, and experience the magic of fishing on the coast. Hosted by the Folly Beach Anglers, this free event is open to kids ages 4 to 16. No pre-registration required. Just show up ready for a morning of sun, salt air, and excitement.
Location: Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Fishing Pier
Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Held rain or shine
New to fishing? No problem. Fishing equipment is provided for free (while supplies last), making it easy for beginners and seasoned anglers alike to jump right in. Participants will be grouped by age and compete for trophies and prizes in both boys and girls divisions:
Ages 4–7
Ages 8–11
Ages 12–16
After the tournament, stick around for prize giveaways, including a free bicycle raffle sponsored by Cool Breeze Bikes (must be present to win). Beyond the excitement, this event is all about community, learning, and appreciation for Folly’s natural beauty. Young anglers will follow the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ guidelines, with all eligible fish released after weigh-in to help protect local ecosystems.

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
