Ring in the New Year the Folly Beach Way

Plan to get to Center Street early on Friday, December 31st for the Flip Flop Drop & Fireworks show! A popular and unique annual celebration on Folly Beach, this event features a giant pair of sparkly flip-flops descending from high above Center Street to prepare for the countdown to the new year. Center Street will be closed to traffic at 10pm to make room for revelers but local businesses will remain open. After the celebratory drop, a grand display of fireworks will begin, marking the beginning of a new year on Folly Beach!

Celebrate the coming of the new year in true Folly Beach fashion with the 8th Annual Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Plunge and costume contest! Gather all of the fearless plungers you know, throw on your best Bill Murray attire, and head on over to the Tides Hotel on Folly Beach to take the plunge into the chilly Atlantic waters. Prizes will be awarded to Best Girl, Best Guy, Best Kid, Best Team, and Best Overall Bill Murray. Contest registration begins at 11am. There is a $5 contest entry fee for participants 18+. No charge for the plunge! The costume contest will begin at 12pm and the Plunge into the chilly Atlantic waters will commence at 1pm. Before and after the plunge, Folly bars and restaurants will be showcasing their best “hair-of-the-dog” cocktails.

Peaceful & Beautiful

This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.

Fantastic & Peaceful

This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
