Salty Snout Showdown Brings Four-Legged Fun to Folly Beach

Things are about to get a little wild on Folly Beach.

The Salty Snout Showdown takes over The Washout on Saturday, September 19, from 6-9 pm, bringing together dogs, friendly competition, plenty of personality, and a good cause for an evening that promises to be anything but ordinary.

Described as a “slightly unhinged dog contest,” the Salty Snout Showdown invites pups and their people to embrace the fun with a lineup of contests, an adoption drive, a public party, and more. Best of all, the event benefits Pet Helpers, supporting its work to rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for animals in need.

A Dog Show, Folly Style

Forget the traditional show ring. The Salty Snout Showdown is all about personality.

Dogs can compete in categories including Most Like Its Owner, Folly Beach Vibe, Asinine Dog Tricks, Best Costume, The Boujee Bone, and the ultimate Golden Bone title. Whether your pup has mastered an unusual trick, knows how to dress for the occasion, or simply carries that unmistakable Folly spirit, there is a place for them in the showdown.

The evening will be hosted by Dannii and Bam Margera, skateboarder and star of MTV’s Jackass and Viva La Bam. A guest judging panel featuring Bill Olson, Roddy Rey, Whit Slagsvol, and Molly O’Connell will help decide which dogs take home the honors.

Not bringing a canine competitor? No problem. The Salty Snout Showdown is also a public party, so you can come out to The Washout, watch the competition, meet adoptable animals during the on-site adoption drive, and enjoy an evening on Center Street while helping support Pet Helpers.

Peaceful & Beautiful

This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.

This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
