Volunteering and Community Stories

Folly Beach isn’t just about ocean views and laid-back vibes; it’s also about community. Behind the island’s easygoing charm is a strong spirit of volunteerism that keeps Folly thriving. Locals and visitors regularly come together to care for the beach, support local causes, and lend a hand.

Groups like the Folly Beach Clean-Up Crew exemplify this spirit, gathering weekly to pick up litter, recycle, and protect marine life. Their efforts help preserve the natural beauty that makes Folly Beach so special while inspiring others to take action as well.

The Folly Beach Association of Businesses (FAB) has a well-known Litter Committee dedicated to creating a “litter-free future for Folly Beach.” This organization plays a significant role in keeping the beaches spotless, and they even have a mascot, Toby the Turtle, who promotes the importance of maintaining clean beaches and oceans.

Community pride shines through at events like Follypalooza and the Sea & Sand Festival, where volunteers, businesses, and nonprofits come together to celebrate and give back. Even small contributions, such as a restaurant hosting a charity night, enhance the island’s sense of connection.

At its core, Folly Beach thrives on kindness and collaboration. Every helping hand and every small effort contributes to a stronger community, reminding everyone that it is this sense of togetherness that truly makes Folly Beach shine.
