The Folly Beach Wahine Classic Returns for Its 24th Year

The waves, the energy, and the sisterhood are back on Folly Beach this summer as the Folly Beach Wahine Classic returns to the Washout for its 24th year on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26.

As the largest nonprofit women’s surf competition on the East Coast, and the only all-girls surf competition of its kind in South Carolina, the Folly Beach Wahine Classic has become one of the Lowcountry’s most beloved summer traditions. Each year, more than 250 surfers, along with their families, friends, and supporters, travel from across the country to experience a weekend full of surf, community, and coastal culture.

Held at Folly’s iconic Washout, the competition welcomes surfers of all ages and skill levels, creating an encouraging atmosphere where seasoned competitors and first-time participants alike can share their love for the ocean. More than just a surf contest, the Wahine Classic is a celebration of female empowerment, camaraderie, and the vibrant surf community that makes Folly Beach so special.

Spectators are invited to come out and enjoy the action all weekend long. The event is free to attend, making it the perfect opportunity to spend a summer day cheering on talented surfers while soaking in the laid-back vibes of Folly Beach.

Beyond the waves, the Wahine Classic continues to make a meaningful impact by supporting local ocean-focused nonprofits and organizations. Event donations help benefit groups including Warrior Surf Foundation, Surfers Healing, Waves 4 Women, She’s On Edge, Charleston Surfrider Foundation, and Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network.

Community members and businesses looking to get involved can also support the event through sponsorship opportunities, helping continue the mission of empowering women in surfing while giving back to important coastal organizations.

Registration information for surfers will be released later this summer. To learn more, become a sponsor, or support the cause, visit FollyWahine.com. You can also follow updates and event announcements on Facebook and Instagram @FollyBeachWahine.

Peaceful & Beautiful

This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.

Fantastic & Peaceful

This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
