Folly Beach Pier is Back Open
After being closed since October 19, 2020, the newly reconstructed Folly Beach Pier is finally open to the public! The construction project finished ahead of schedule, standing 22 feet above sea level and 1,049 feet long. Its 25-foot-wide walkway opens up to a 7,500-square-foot diamond head platform with shade structures, benches, restrooms, and other amenities. Folly Beach Pier visitors are offered stunning views of the Atlantic and some of the best saltwater fishing around. Guests can also visit the Pier 101 Restaurant and Bar, the Gangplank Gift and Tackle Shop, and beach access points to enhance their visit.
The Folly Beach Pier is well known for its gatherings and community events, such as fishing tournaments, Moonlight Mixer dance series, and Folly Pier Fests! The original Folly Beach Pier, built in 1931, started the story of this Lowcountry icon. Since the construction of the first pier, standing at 97 feet in length, Folly Beach has seen several renditions of the Folly Beach Pier, including 1960s Ocean Plaza featuring a boardwalk and amusement rides and the Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Fishing Pier constructed in 1995. Typical wooden pile piers have a 20-25 years lifespan, but with modern improvements, Folly Beach’s newest pier is predicted to have a longer life expectancy at 65+ years!
The Folly Beach Pier is open daily from 8am-sunset (operating hours may vary) for your enjoyment! Visitation is free, although a parking charge has been implemented at the pier facility to help fund maintenance and staffing.

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
