Wahines Ruled the Waves at the 2025 Folly Beach Wahine Classic

Folly Beach played host to one of our favorite annual traditions, the 2025 Folly Beach Wahine Classic, and what a weekend it was!

Held on July 26–27, the Wahine Classic—now in its 23rd year—celebrates women and girls in surfing, and this year’s event epically did just that. We welcomed 247 talented female surfers from across the country, including as far away as Puerto Rico, all here to compete in 18 different divisions ranging from beginners and groms to longboarders, shortboarders, and even a pro division.

Whether it was your first time attending or you’ve been coming for years, there was something magical about seeing women of all ages doing what they love, supporting each other, and riding wave after wave with strength, grace, and plenty of Folly spirit.

The beach was buzzing with energy all weekend long. Surfboards lined the sand, families and fans cheered from the shore, and competitors soaked up the sunshine between heats. While we’re not naming individual winners (because there were so many!), we want to congratulate everyone who participated. Your passion and performance inspired us all.

Events like the Wahine Classic remind us why Folly Beach is so special. We’re proud to be a place where surfers of all ages and backgrounds can unite, compete, and connect over their shared love of the ocean.

Thanks to all the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped bring the 2025 Wahine Classic to life. And to the surfers: thank you for showing us what Wahine power really looks like.

Until next year, keep chasing waves.

Peaceful & Beautiful

This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.

Fantastic & Peaceful

This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
