Summer is Heating Up on Folly
Folly Beach is the place to soak up sunshine, sea breezes, and salty air, but don’t let a sunburn ruin the fun! Whether surfing, sunbathing, or strolling on Center Street, staying sun-safe is key.
Although many people think they won’t burn during a beach trip, sunburn is very likely. With the combination of UV rays, the water’s reflective surface, and prolonged exposure, it’s crucial to take preventative measures when visiting the beach. Don’t let a sunburn ruin the fun. Fun fact: Even if you want to tan, you don’t have to skip out on the sunscreen. Our skin can tan even while using SPF 30 or higher!
Here’s how to enjoy the sunshine the smart way: Be sure to apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every two hours (especially after swimming). Bring a wide-brimmed hat and polarized sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from harmful rays. Although soaking in the rays feels amazing, take breaks in the shade occasionally to cool off and give your skin a break to reduce the risk of sunburn. Also, bring some umbrellas and beach tents with you to the beach so you can take breaks and not miss out on all the fun. Umbrellas and beach tents are your best friends when visiting the beach during a hot summer day. Additionally, stay hydrated with water between beach cocktails and cold brews. Sweating, the salty air, and physical activity on the beach can quickly lead to dehydration and other heat-related illnesses if you don’t hydrate with water frequently.
Please note: The sun’s UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so plan accordingly and protect yourself and your loved ones while you play and soak in the summer sun at Folly Beach.
At Folly, we’re all about good times and good vibes, so keep it cool, stay safe, and enjoy every minute on the Edge of America!

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
