Rainy Day Fun on Folly Beach
A rainy day on Folly Beach doesn’t mean your plans are washed out; it just gives you a chance to experience the island in a whole new, cozy way. While the sunshine is ideal for beach adventures, there’s something special about slowing down, exploring indoors, and discovering the quieter side of Folly.
Start by heading to Center Street, where local shops offer plenty of browsing entertainment. From surf shops to boutiques filled with artwork, handmade jewelry, and beachy souvenirs, it’s the perfect opportunity to pick up something unique. Kids and adults alike will love exploring the quirky, colorful stores that make Folly so charming.
When hunger hits, settle into one of the island’s many cafés or restaurants. A rainy day is the perfect excuse to savor warm comfort foods like she-crab soup, fresh seafood dishes, or a classic burger. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate at a local café, sit back, and enjoy the sound of rain falling just outside.
If you’re up for a little activity, consider heading off-island to nearby attractions like the South Carolina Aquarium or local art studios where you can take a workshop or paint-your-own pottery. These easy day trips offer hours of fun and learning, especially for families looking to keep everyone entertained.
No matter how you choose to spend it, a rainy day on Folly Beach has its own kind of coastal charm. With cozy meals, relaxed exploring, and moments of slowing down, it’s a reminder that even gray skies can make your trip memorable.

Peaceful & Beautiful
This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.
Fantastic & Peaceful
This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
