Mermaids & Mateys Event

Ahoy, friends! Our popular Folly Beach Mermaids & Mateys Event is back for 2024! Round up the buccaneers and strap on a tail (if that’s your thing) and come celebrate the sea and all its treasures with us.
The weekend will include our Salty Saturday Center Street Closure Event on 9/28 featuring food and drinks; arts, crafts, and fashion vendors; live music on multiple stages; a huge kids area; and more! Then, on Sunday the 29th, join us on the beach for some healthy competition in the Sand Sculpting Contest!

The Mermaids and Mateys Center Street Closure Event
Location: Center Street
Time: 10am – 4pm
Tickets: $10 in advance; $15 at the door
(Kids 12 and under are free; Folly residents with valid driver’s licenses are free)
Center Street will be closed on “Salty Saturday” and taken over by Folly establishments and local vendors! What’s an event without some competition? Mermaids and Mateys will feature a costume contest for families and adults. Complemented by local bands, 70+ Folly art, craft, and fashion vendors, dunk tank and a robust kid area, Mermaids & Mateys will have something for everyone!
Live Music: Three stages will showcase Folly musicians. Additional details regarding the music lineup are coming soon!
Kids Area: Check out the Mermaids and Mateys under the sea kids area by Good Clean Fun with mermaids, sand crafts, stilt walkers and more! There will also be free inflatables for games and jumping fun!
Costume Contest: What’s an event without some competition? Mermaids and Mateys will feature a costume contest for families and adults. Dress up as a Mermaid, Matey, or your favorite Under the Sea character! Prizes to be awarded!

The streets will close at 7am and reopen at 6:00pm but are open to the public from 10am – 4pm.
Sunday, September 29: Sand Sculpting Competition
Keep the fun going into Sunday with a sand-sculpting competition, taking place on the beach behind the Tides Hotel from 11am – 2:30pm!

*No Animals, Coolers, Bikes, Skateboards, Scooters, or Backpacks (except diaper bags). No Outside Beverages. Reusable cups are permitted but must be empty upon entering and exiting the event.
We are proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association – South Carolina Chapter again as we work to “Paint Folly Purple” in our best under-the-sea wear and raise money for this very special local charity!
