The Folly Beach Association of Business (FAB) Litter Committee’s mission is to create a litter-free future for Folly Beach and its inhabitants by conducting thorough litter sweeps, recording valuable data, and presenting data to officials to enforce and create legislation to improve litter issues.

World Ocean Day Litter Sweep
Hosted by the Folly Association of Business

Celebrate World Ocean Day by helping Toby the Turtle #KeepFollyClean!
Global Eco Adventures (GEA) has partnered with litter-sweeping legend Toby the Turtle and the South Carolina Aquarium in a global cleanup initiative. This is GEA’s third-annual World Oceans Day Coastal Cleanup, an initiative that orchestrates a simultaneous cleanup in four critical areas around the globe on June 8th: Myrtle Beach, SC; Folly Beach, SC; Maui, HI; and San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands.
World Oceans Day 2022 in Folly Beach was a tremendous success, with over 180 volunteers and participants. Let’s top that this year!!
Last year in Folly Beach, we utilized the Aquarium’s Litter Journal, an open-source data platform that is free for all users. Communities are able to track their conservation impact through data entry that details the amount, location, and types of debris collected during litter sweeps. Litter-logging is important for informing local policy efforts, particularly in coastal zones such as Folly Beach.
The GEA Coastal Cleanup in partnership with Toby the Turtle and the SC Aquarium, will be held in Folly Beach on Thursday, June 8th 2023 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time. Thanks to our gracious host, Tides Hotel, we will convene beachside at 1 Center St Folly Beach, SC.
A signup link is provided to the left, and while we strongly encourage signups, walk-up participants are welcome. All cleanup resources will be provided by the Aquarium. Please remember to bring your reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and enthusiasm!! This event will take place rain or shine.
