July Fishing Report

Inshore fishing in the calm waters of Folly Beach have been great recently! Redfish, Speckled Trout and Flounder have been biting well on a variety of live and cut bait. Big sharks and Bull Redfish are hunting down our rigs in the deep holes and rock piles around our inlets and Jetties. Mackerel, Bonito and Spadefish continue to give us exciting opportunities just a few miles off the beach.

Our fishing charters are having one of the best Flounder seasons that I can recall. The fish are laid up in shallow water just outside of creek mouths and at ambush points on many flats. Our clients have caught multiple keepers on every trip. If you like catching Flounder you just may be in luck if the bite continues. The most successful approach for us involves using a float with a 3 ft leader, a split shot and a #2 circle hook with a small mullet or mud minnow hooked through the lip. We make a long cast and let the current carry the bait through the target zone. The telling bite from a Flounder happens when the float suddenly stops in the current and slowly moves just a few inches. When that happens, wait about 30 seconds and just start reeling, from there, the fight will be on!

We also have had good success fishing around the oyster beds and grass lines using floats for Speckled Trout and Redfish as well. It’s best to target those fish while we have good current. So we do our best to get you fishing during the best tides of the morning and afternoons. There are plenty of fish to target and we are family friendly. So feel free to include everyone in your crew!

Peaceful & Beautiful

This was my families first time at the ocean and I will never forget the look of joy on my youngest daughter’s face the moment the waves first came up on her feet. The beach was not over crowded, was clean, and was great for relaxing, swimming, and collecting seashells. There is a long pier for fishing off of and it is a beautiful sight at night. The town atmosphere was a nice mix between relaxing and having a good time and can work for the over 21 crowd as well as for families with small kids. There are plenty of great food stops and cute shops.

Fantastic & Peaceful

This beach is very relaxing and a great place to chill out. We saw several dolphins and enjoyed walking on the fishing pier. I would consider staying on the beach here next time we are in Charleston instead of downtown.
