If being named the number one beach on the East Coast wasn’t enough, Folly Beach’s very own Morris Island Lighthouse has been named the number one spot in Charleston to watch the sunrise by The Post and Courier’s photographers!
The lighthouse was first lit in 1876 and shined bright across the water until 1962. It was then named as a Historic Place by the National Register in 1982. While it is beautiful on its own, during a sunrise or sunset, it can not be beat. Visitors and locals should make it a priority to take a walk to see this landmark in all its glory. You will not regret it!
Thank you Charleston Scene for this wonderful recognition!

Folly Beach fishing charters have been on a steady bite recently as a week of cooler than normal weather and calm conditions provided easy fishing conditions. There is plenty of fun to be had for anglers of every age and skill level. Bait is flush in the system and now through the end of December we typically experience the best fishing of the year. Shark fishing has been a crowd pleaser as these predators hug the beaches and prowl the inlets in search of an easy meal. Inshore Speckled Trout, Flounder and Redfish remain a favorite target while just off the beach the Bull Redfish run is in full swing. We have been casting assorted live bait such as finger mullet, mud minnows and shrimp to our inshore fish while cut menhaden seems to be the bait of choice for large Redfish and Sharks. Deep Sea trips are finding King Mackerel, Triggerfish, Cobia, Snapper and Amberjack for anglers that want to venture farther off the coast. Fishing in Folly Beach has been great this week. The summer fishing pattern has developed and all the usual species are being caught on a regular basis. Deep Sea fishing charters have been catching Cobia, King Mackerel, Spadefish and too many species to mention. Inshore fishing charters in Folly Beach have enjoyed a consistent Redfish and Speckled Trout bite. We have also been occasionally catching some nice Flounder and Spanish Mackerel. The shark bite has been good around the inlets and deeper water just inside the harbor and inland waterways. Live and fresh cut bait such as shrimp, mullet and menhaden have been the most dependable baits inshore during our trips but a proficient angler can still do well with plastics and hard baits.
