January Fishing Forecast

Our Fishing charters in Folly Beach have seen plenty of action lately as mild weather and calm conditions have settled into our area. Resident Redfish have begun to gather up in schools on and near the flats and can be seen cruising and sunning themselves at low tide. Black Drum and Sheepshead have moved into the creeks and structure on main river points and reefs. We have been catching Redfish using soft plastic baits by Z-Man and a variety of cut or live bait including shrimp and mud minnows. Light tackle and accurate casts help present our baits more naturally to these wary fish. Black Drum and Sheepshead are foraging on cut and live shrimp which is still plentiful if you know where to net it. We have been using Carolina rigs to get these baits to where the fish are and we have been most successful at the lower end of the tide.
The Speckled Trout bite has been good wherever you can find a combination of structure and current. These fish have been taking both plastics and live shrimp very well and when you locate them they seem to be appearing in solid numbers. This time of year the Speckled Trout are often far off the bank so start fan casting 100 feet off the bank and work your way in until you get your first bite.
Deep Sea fishing charters at the nearshore reefs have been finding Black Sea Bass, Sheepshead, Black Drum and some big Bull Reds! These bruisers have been cruising the surface chasing live baits. We have been able to catch them on top water plugs, metal jigs and soft plastics. Most of these fish are well over 30 inches long and have plenty of room to run when hooked so when you get connected be ready for a long fight! I expect January to provide lots of action this year so get to my online calendar and get your spot saved. I look forward to seeing you on deck soon! December Fishing Forecast

Fishing charters in Folly Beach during December and January will usually provide plenty of action. Anglers of any experience level can boat big numbers of Redfish, Speckled Trout, Black Drum and Sheepshead. The Redfish and Speckled Trout eagerly chase down mud minnows and shrimp cast under a float rig. If you want to cast artificial baits to them smaller swim baits by Z-Man will yield you solid results without the complications and cost of dealing with live bait.
Black Drum and Sheepshead can be found foraging around docks, oyster beds and rock piles. We drop shrimp, clam strips and Fiddler Crabs directly along the structure to entice these fish to strike. When they do, an immediate hook set is required to gain control of the fish before they swim back into the structure for safety.
Weather and conditions permitting we will also pursue big schools of Weakfish that have taken up residence at the nearshore reefs. If we are lucky schools of Bull Reds can be found cruising about a mile off of Folly Beach and Charleston. In summary, there is no shortage of game fish to target this time of year so don’t be caught sitting on the couch. Call or text to get on the schedule and let’s go fishing!

Fall fishing in Folly Beach is simply the best of the year. The waters around the sandbars and inlets are teeming with Bull Redfish, the creeks and points are holding Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum and Redfish of every size. Bait is typically plentiful and the weather is most often dry and comfortable. If you allow your guide to choose the target species you will likely have a productive, fun day on the water.
The last several weeks our Folly Beach fishing charters have been successfully targeting Bull Redfish just off the beach and Speckled Trout inshore. The Bull Reds have been eating mullet, Pinfish and Blue Crab while the Speckled Trout have responded to Mud minnows, Shrimp and artificials. Along with the Speckled Trout we have been catching Flounder, Black Drum and plenty of inshore Redfish so a mixed bag has more often than not been the rule of the day.
