June Fishing Forecast

Fishing has been great in Folly Beach the past few weeks and I have no reason to expect anything to change soon. This is a great time of year to go fishing in the low country! Some days there are so many species to target and so many opportunities to take advantage of it’s hard to make a decision on where to go. Deep Sea trips have been catching Mahi Mahi, Snapper, Grouper, Jacks, Sea Bass and too many other species to mention. Nearshore trips have been catching Bull Redfish, Bonito, Amberjack, Sharks and Spanish and King Mackerel just to name a few. Inshore Flounder, Redfish, Speckled Trout and Black Drum have been caught in good numbers. Our guests have had many great days on the water with dozens of fish boated of all sizes and kinds. The reef action is non stop including some great topwater action. The flats are full of shrimp and finger mullet which keeps all the inshore fish on the prowl. Don’t miss out on the action! Book quickly and securely online or give me a call, text or email us. I can be reached at 843-696-4231.

Ultimate Relaxation

Moms work hard, so help yours relax with a yoga class and massage pairing.  Visit one of our many local studios for a relaxing stretching session to help her reconnect with her body and her internal light.  There are so many benefits to gently, healthy movement especially for our older loved ones.  On Mother’s Day, take care of her every need, even the ones she doesn’t know she has! Follow the class with a deep tissue massage at Mālama Massage Therapy, and don’t forget to hydrate!

Everyone deserves some beauty in their life, especially mothers!  Have flowers delivered to her from on of Folly’s talented florists.  She will be so surprised, and you don’t even have to go pick them up with the convenient delivery options.  There are also many lovely beach shops with treasures to remind her of this special day for the rest of her life.

Monthly Spotlight: Folly River Lodge

Monthly Spotlight: Folly River Lodge

Folly River Lodge is one of our newest businesses on Folly. This seven-room boutique inn is tucked in the mature trees next to the boat landing parking lot at 87 Center Street. Sunnee and Curt, owners/operators, designed their inn with inspiration from the old Atlantic House on the outside, and on the inside, each room has a clean relaxed feel with modern-bohemian décor.

Behind the large fenced-in area of the property is a yard full of games along with a lounge area, a bar, a stage, and plenty of room to hang out and relax, or have a party with about 60 friends. It’s another venue capable of hosting parties and events.

Sunnee and Curt have owned property on Folly Beach since 2009 and discovered a passion for hosting and entertaining guests who visit Folly. It became their goal to someday say adios to the corporate world and make hosting guests a full-time, live/work experience as innkeepers.

“The goal is to have guests explore Folly Beach and not just sit in their rooms. Five of the seven rooms don’t even have TV’s as we encourage guests relax, unplug, and enjoy our river, our beach, and our wonderful small town.”

Spring Charters

2020-01-15T11:00:54-05:00

Spring Charters

Spring Break is here and Deep Sea fishing charters, Nearshore fishing charters and Inshore Charter fishing in Folly Beach have been producing some of our favorite sport fish.

Deep Sea Fishing charters have been targeting assorted snapper, King Mackerel, Wahoo, Sea Bass and too many other species to mention. Nearshore fishing at the reefs and wrecks just off the beach have been catching Black Drum, Weakfish, Bluefish, Bull Redfish and Sheepshead. To catch Sheepshead we have been fishing over rocks, pilings and any kind of hard structure. Fiddler crabs and oyster meat have been catching the most fish. The tackle we have been using is a Carolina rig with a 10 inch leader and a #2 mosquito hook. Drop it down to the bottom next to structure and lift the weight about a foot off the structure. Wait for the soft quick tap and set the hook immediately. These guys are quick so be sharp and expect to go through some tackle in the process. Inshore fishing charters have been targeting Redfish, Speckled Trout and Flounder as they begin to feed more heavily in our warming waters. The Reds have been taking mud minnows, soft plastics by Z-Man and DOA, and cut bait such as mullet, crab and shrimp. Speckled Trout have been eating soft plastics by Z-Man and DOA, mud minnows and shrimp under corks and if you can find them menhaden live lined with a split shot into deeper holes in the channels.

If you want additional information on tackle or techniques your favorite tackle shop will be happy to offer you the information that you need. To book a charter you may do so quickly and securely on the Charleston Fish Rod Bending Company website. Text, call 843-696-4231 or email at [email protected] if you have any additional questions. I hope to see you on board!

The Little Mermaid on Folly Beach

2019-11-07T15:01:48-05:00

Folly Beach had a SUPER talented visitor last month!

Meet Nathaniel, a high school senior and an amazing pianist. While visiting his Grandparents in Goose Creek, Nathaniel and his team made a trip to Folly Beach to make a music video on the beach (though it was no easy task).

Determination allowed Nathaniel and his team moved the 650lb piano onto the beach by hand. With the help of a small U-Haul trailer, they were able to cart the piano to the beach entrance and some nearby driftwood allowed them to gain traction under the wheels and hoist the piano onto the beach.

Nathaniel says, “We would’ve never made it if it weren’t for some kind people who stopped to help us move the piano throughout the day. Every now and then, people (who I assume just felt bad for us) would stop to help us move the piano for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. Their assistance meant more to us than they know.”

Once the piano made it onto the sand, they found the perfect spot to film their music video. And we’re just in awe of this young man’s talent.

Monthly Spotlight: Surf Bar

Monthly Spotlight: Surf Bar

Surf Bar’s outdoor patio is reminiscent of a Costa Rican roadside bar. You can smell the wood grill when you walk in the front door and the smoke flavor permeates each dish; from the homemade black bean burger to the philly cheese steak to the hanger steak (available as a special). The Ahi tuna tacos are blackened and grill-seared served with a teriyaki ginger glaze and roasted corn salsa. Belly up to the bar, grab a seat outside, or pull up to a table in the dining room and enjoy the live music three or four nights a week! Try their signature pain killer, made with dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange. The nutmeg dusted on top is Pura Vida!
