Have a Folly Jolly Holiday Season!

Thousands of people come every year to enjoy South Carolina’s beautiful Folly Beach, also known as “The Edge of America”. But of course when it gets a little colder and tourist season isn’t as popular, the off-season crowd trickles in. If you’re lucky enough to spend the holidays on Folly Beach, there are a lot of special things you can do to get in the Holiday spirit.

A Folly favorite is definitely seeing the sunrise. Of course the sunset is beautiful but there is something much more special and intimate about the sunrise at Folly Beach. Not to mention, even in the off hours it’s still a popular spot, and people come every morning just to take it in. It’s the perfect way to spend time with your friends and loved ones this time of year. So grab a blanket and your camera because this is something you’re not going to want to miss!

Another fan favorite during the holidays is the Christmas parade. This special Christmas tradition happens every year and will be on Saturday, December 9th. The streets will be cleared from Second Street and West Ashley Avenue all the way down Center Street. Not to mention it’s the perfect place to do your holiday shopping. We can’t wait to see Santa Claus come right down Center Street!

One thing you definitely can’t forget about is the Flip Flop Drop. Every year on December 31st, we celebrate New Year’s Eve Folly style and drop flip flops (our version of the ball drop). It’s a great family friendly event and we love to show off our South Carolina twist on the New Year.

Last on your holiday to-do list after the Flip Flop Drop is to bring in the New Year with the annual Bill Murray Look-A-Like Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Day. Hundreds gather in their best Bill Murray costumes and run to take a dive into the Atlantic to recover from their New Year’s festivities. Southerners will tell you it’s freezing, Northerners not so much…find out for yourself!

Happy Holidays!
